a. Concept Briefs Project with Open Society Institute
The current public discourse revolves around concepts such as republicanism, inclusive democratic, federated political structure, etc. Yet, it can be doubted if the large, silent mass of Nepalis understand the major issues and concepts being proclaimed and debated in the urban areas. To make up for this lacuna, Social Science Baha is preparing ‘concept briefs’ on 30 or so key concepts and terms in Nepali. Nepali experts will write the briefs which will then be edited to ensure clarity and simplicity of language understood by ordinary Nepalis, while retaining the complex meanings of the concepts.

The final output will be disseminated using a variety of media, in the hope that it will help Nepalis understand issues (and concepts) that are of vital importance to them and to the future of Nepal, and that the discussions they hold and the decisions they make will be both informed and reasoned. This, in turn, may in the long run lead to a more open, inclusive, broad-based and participatory democratic Nepal.
